Quality shots

My new favorite basketball player is Gilbert Arenas. This guy is an animal. 51 and the game winner against Utah yesterday. 54 against Phoenix (who I watched play last night and they are just dumb) and 60 against the Lakers last month. Oh yeah, and he's a riot in the press, calling himself things like The East Coast Assassin, the Hibachi grill, Agent Zero, the Black President.

This man should be MVP if it weren't for Steve I ADD 50 POINTS TO THE SUNS OFFENSE EVERY GAME Nash.

While I am hating on Duke...

Found last year's cheer sheet for Duke-VT on an N&O blog:

DUKE IS REALLY BAD AT BASKETBALL

Wow, I just watched Duke turn the ball over like 25 times and lose at home to Virginia Tech. If it weren't for Sean Dockery last year, that would have been twice in a row to that team. Wow, Duke is so bad.

Cowher resigns

It's the end of an era. It seems right, Cowher's been coach for 15-some years and finally got the "one for the thumb". How much more is there for him to do? It feels like when Dean Smith retired, he'd spent so many years at Carolina CHANGING the way basketball is played and defining that program.

I wonder what the vibe is going to be like when I go back to school in a week.

Fiedler's proposal

Jeff Fiedler, the director of the Cavaliers, is proposing a rules change that determine placement by a sum of ordinal placements for each caption rather than a sum of scores out of 200. GE would count twice since it currently carries twice as much weight as other captions.

Out of all the proposals this season, this is the most radical change of them all. Yes, George Hopkins wants to have synthesizers and samplers on the field, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that's going to get shut down soundly. I did a little experimenting, and here's how Finals week would have panned out under this system. Lowest score wins, I counted GE twice. First one is quarters, then semis, then finals.

Nothing major like someone advancing and someone not advancing, but the Cadets and Bluecoats would have swapped all three nights with Cadets getting 4th on Finals night. BK had brutal Visual Ensemble scores but somehow turned it around on Finals night. I guess kudos to them turning it on when it counts, can't really judge because the only time I have seen them is the Finals DVD. Other interesting things happened too: discuss.

Jumping ship

When I joined Carolina Crown at Spring training, I thought it was just going to be a jumping board for me to go back to Bluecoats the next season. Hell, even really late in the season, when asked if I was marching next season, I say I wasn't sure if, if I could do it I might do Bluecoats because they are so darn cheap and I can actually attend their camps from Pittsburgh.

But all those dreams of marching at DCI Finals, the last horns down and waching the crowd go absolutely NUTS, I realized those. And I wasn't wearing blue, it turned out I was wearing CREAM. And as far as placement, yeah, it's just a number they put next to your name. But those boos and retreat, we are NOT an 8th place corps. People WANT Crown to be top 6, top 5, hell, CROWN should be the next corps to earn a ring. How awesome is that!

For those reasons, I don't see why anyone would want to leave the chance to make HISTORY.
